
Sopranos
Jennifer Lamson, Principal
Jennifer Lamson, soprano, performs frequently throughout New England as a soloist and chamber vocalist. In CT, she currently sings with Voce, Concora, The Woodland Scholars, and is a section leader at Immanuel Congregational Church. Jennifer’s voice has been described by The New London paper, The Day, as ‘a crystalline voice, pure and unadorned’. Jennifer has appeared as soloist with the Connecticut Chamber Singers for Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, and in Haydn’s Mass in Time of War with the Farmington Chorale, as well as Rutter’s Gloria and Magnificat, Faure’s Requiem and most recently, Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus. Jennifer is a music educator in Wallingford, CT and also directs the ImmArts Children’s Choir at Immanuel Congregational Church. Jennifer received her BS in Music Education from Plymouth State University and her Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Connecticut.
Joanne Scattergood
Born and bred in New Jersey, Ms. Scattergood received her Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude from the Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford. After studying as a mezzo-soprano for 12 years, she realized that she was a true soprano and found a mentor in Phyllis Bryn-Julson. She studied with Ms. Bryn-Julson for eight years and through the births of her three sons.
Ms. Scattergood has sung oratorio all over New England, with the Hartford Symphony, Orchestra New England, the Pioneer Valley Symphony, the New Britain Symphony, and the Farmington Valley Symphony. She has also performed Beethoven's Missa Solemnis under the direction of Robert Shaw with the Bordeaux Symphony at the St. Céré Music Festival in Souillac, France. In addition to Maestro Shaw, Miss Scattergood has sung under the batons of Edward Cumming, John Eells, Michael Korn, Michael Lankester, John Rutter, James Sinclair, Sir Michael Tippett, and Sir David Willcocks.
A former member of the New World Chamber Ensemble, Anhared Stowe, Music Director, and the Connecticut Choral Artists (CONCORA), Richard Coffey, Music Director, Ms. Scattergood presently sings with the Arcadia Players, an early music orchestra under the direction of Ian Watson, The Singer's Project, Beth Hart, Music Director, and is a frequent soloist with choral groups throughout New England. In 1993, she, her husband, counter-tenor Scott Reeves, and choral director Larry Allen founded the Woodland Scholars, a 16 person vocal ensemble based in the Hartford area, which continues to thrive.
In addition to her singing career, Ms. Scattergood teaches over 70 students at Central Connecticut State University, the Westminster School, and in her home studio.
Meaghan Sheehan
Meaghan Sheehan began singing in 1997 as a member of the Elm City Girls' Choir in New Haven, CT under the direction of Thomas Brand. Her appreciation of choral music continued to grow throughout high school and into college. At the University of Connecticut, Ms. Sheehan sang as a member and President of the UConn Festival Chorus and the Storrs Collegium Musicum and was Music Director of the a cappella group, Rubyfruit. She has performed with the Vernon Chorale, the Connecticut Chamber Singers, the Woodland Scholars, and the Sorbonne Scholars of L'Universite Paris IV in Paris, France, and has sung as both a member and section leader of several church choirs throught the state. From 2005-2006, Ms. Sheehan returned to the United Choir School, the umbrella organization of the Elm City Girls' Chor, as a teaching assistant and co-conductor in divisions in Branford and Milford, CT. Currently, Ms. Sheehan is employed by the Hartford Public School System where she teaches General Music to students in Pre-K through 6th grade and directs an after-school choir. Ms. Sheehan has traveled abroad as a member of the Vermont-based choral ensemble, Village Harmony, which is known for its work with traditional polyphonic singing styles including American Shapenote as well as traditional Georgian and Balkan music. This summer, she will travel with Village Harmony to South Africa as a member of the touring choir.
Allison Lurie
Allison Lurie, soprano, graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. A featured soloist and choral vocalist at UConn, Allison was a member of the Concert Choir, Collegium Musicum and the University Chorale. She also served as a section leader in the Festival Chorus. Allison placed first in the 2000 National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition and has won multiple music scholarships throughout her career. Allison attended the Westminster Choir College’s Summer Institute and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Allison has sung under many notable conductors including Seiji Ozawa and John Rutter. Allison has been an active participant in multiple choral ensembles, including the Woodland Scholars and the Hartford Chorale. She currently sings with Voce, CONCORA and the Vernon Chorale. Allison is also a section leader, soloist, and assistant director of the IMM*Arts Children’s Choir at Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford.
Sara Metcalfe
Sara B. Metcalfe, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, holds a master’s degree in opera from the Hartt School. She has sung with numerous choral groups such as Concora, the Woodland Scholars and the Consort of Voices. She has performed many opera roles including Adele, Rosina, the Queen of the Night, and Miss Wordsworth from Albert Herring. The highlight of her career was a month in Rome, Italy singing Adina in the Elixir of Love. Ms. Metcalfe recently sang the role of Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff with the Nova Scotia Opera. She is a soloist and section leader at Asylum Hill Church. Sara currently lives in West Hartford with her recording engineer husband, two young musical sons, and large chocolate lab named Bryn.
Jennifer Ferrand
A native of Buffalo, New York, Ms. Ferrand Kelly studied violin and voice from a young age. She completed a BA in Music at the State University of New York, where she was awarded several scholarships for her solo work. She later relocated to Connecticut to pursue graduate studies, and currently sings with CONCORA and the Hartford Chorale. When not singing, Ms. Ferrand Kelly is a psychologist practicing in the Hartford area.
Megan LaPorta
Megan LaPorta is very excited to be joining Voce this year. She graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. She has studied voice under the instruction of Adele Paxton, and Zehava Gal of Westminster Choir College. Megan has been a member of the CCSU Chorale and was a scholarship recipient in the University Singers. She was the founder and musical director of the only all-female a cappella group at CCSU, the Acabellas. She also received the 2007 Music Departmental Honor Award- given to one student in the department each year for their work and contributions to the music department. Megan is a soloist at the Middlebury Congregational Church, and a member of the Sounds of Joy Choir. She is also the soprano section leader at South Congregational Church in Hartford, under the direction of Voce members Gretchen Collins and Floyd Higgins. She placed third twice in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competitions. In May 2007, Megan won second place in the Student Division of the Opera Theater of Connecticut's Amici Vocal Competition.
